Top Shelf publisher Chris Staros sent me a few advance copies, and we both think it looks terrific (he said modestly). Chris reports the rest are on a boat from China, and should be in stores in a few weeks, assuming neither pirates nor the Nautilus intervene. If and when you get it, I’d enjoy hearing what you think.
UPDATE: part one of a new lengthy interview with Alan about the book on CBR.
I saw the preview of this on Newsarama today, and what struck me most is that Kevin is using a slightly different art style than usual. Has he tailored the style for different sections of the book, or is it consistent throughout?
I don’t see it, Peter. The style on this book looks the same as the rest of the LOEG work to me. The preview art is at a lower resolution than the printed art, though, maybe that’s what you’re seeing. Don’t know if he’ll do anything different for the remaining two books of this volume.
The black-and-white art looks superb–I can’t wait to see what it looks like colored.
You’re right; having just compared it to previous volumes, it seems that the lower resolution makes it appear different; thicker lines, perhaps.
Regardless, I’m very excited about this book. I’m a latecomer to the League, but have enjoyed them all immensely.
To end on a note of flattery, I’d like to say how happy I am to see you involved in these stories too. As a reader of Sandman since the very first issue, I know the difference a really top-class letterer can make to a project.
Thanks, Peter.
