And Then I Read: GREEN LANTERN CORPS 4 & 5

There’s another war going on in this book, and this time the enemy seems impervious to Green Lantern powers. Both sides have taken prisoners in issue 4 and are trying to gather information. Some of that information comes to light in issue 5. I liked where writer Peter Tomasi was going with this storyline, but issue 5 reveals some new twists to Green Lantern lore that I don’t find very credible. Actions taken by The Guardians are often suspect, but these just seem too foolish even for them. I’ll just leave it at that, in case you might not have read these yet. Plenty of action and violence here.

Issue 5 also introduces a new crew of battle-weary GLs that seem right out of “The Dirty Dozen,” except there aren’t that many of them. Or a DC war comic. Not a bad way to add some variety to the GL mix. The art by Fernando Pasarin and Scott Hanna is excellent. Despite that, because the storyline lost me I have to say these are only mildly recommended.
