And Then I Read: AQUAMAN 12

Aquaman’s blood feud with Black Manta is coming to a boil in this issue, and even underwater it gets nasty. Both the former super-group The Others and Mera are converging on the secret island where Manta has uncovered the magical/scientific sceptre that purportedly caused the sinking of Atlantic eons ago. Aquaman is already there. Battles ensue. Deadly force is used. Amid that we get some good character moments, including another flashback to Arthur’s childhood. Geoff Johns continues to keep me on the edge of my seat with this title.

Some of the New 52 books chose to wrap up storylines with issue 12, which will be followed by 0 issues, some did not. This is one of the latter, so we don’t get to the end of this storyline yet, but I’m looking forward to it.

The art by penciller Ivan Reis and a trio of inkers continues to be excellent, abetted by fine coloring and lettering by Reis and Napolitano.
