And Then I Read: AQUAMAN 3

After a one page memory prologue, this issue jumps back into the action it left in #2, a battle in a seaside town with a group of nasty deep-sea creatures, as shown on the cover above. Despite their increased powers, Aquaman and Mera have their hands full.

Later they visit a deep-sea scholar for advice, bringing the corpse of one of the creatures with them. Writer Geoff Johns is gradually filling in background details on this Aquaman revamp in an artful way that I admire, while developing a storyline that will finally take the heroes deep into the ocean for the first time. I’m looking forward to that.

The art by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado continues to be excellent. Nothing to complain about, this issue is fine from start to finish, and highly recommended. Bring on “The Trench!”
