Under the heading of “no good deed goes unpunished,” this Batman title is an action-filled whirlwind of former and present Batman proteges battling each other, with the cover-featured villain (inspired by Gilbert and Sullivan, apparently) in the mix, too. Grant Morrison juggles them well, keeping up the suspense in the third and final part of this story arc.
I’m still not crazy about the art by Philip Tan and Jonathan Glapion. The layouts are rather pedestrian compared to the Frank Quitely ones that preceded it, and the characters, while suitably shadowy and mysterious, have a rather doughy look to them, as epitomized in the image of Alfred above. Be interesting to see what Cameron Stewart brings to this title in the next arc. Mildly recommended.
