I had my doubts about this comedy, but I ended up enjoying it largely due to the physical comedy and jokes of Tim Conway. Jan-Michael Vincent is convincing and charming as the Tarzan-like Nanu, good performances are given by John Amos, Roscoe Lee Brown, and Nancy Walker, and Howard Cosell as himself is also quite funny. Nanu’s pet tiger is entertaining.

Sam Archer (Amos) and his assistant Milo (Conway) coach all the sports at Merrivale College, and lose every event. They decide to go on an African safari, and there discover the Tarzan-like Nanu, son of white missionaries who died, raised by the tribal medicine man Gazenga. The coaches are sure he could be a sports star at their college, and manage to convince him to come home with them. Nanu’s pet tiger is a problem, but they get away with having him in a boarding house and at the games. Nanu does extremely well at every sport, and soon attracts a girlfriend, the accolades of fans, and a rival who arranges to have Gazenga come to the college and use his powers to take him back to Africa. Can Nanu overcome Gazenga’s magic to win all the events at the big track meet?

Running time is 92 minutes and I watched it on Amazon Prime.
