A 1973 western starring James Garner as a soldier wanted for treason, and Clay O’Brien as a white boy raised by Indians. Also starring are Vera Miles and Jodie Foster. Though there’s humor largely based around two camels, the drama is enhanced by a fine score by Jerry Goldsmith, and the story is well written and acted. The running time is 91 minutes, and it made about two million dollars.
Clint Keyes (Garner) is being transported to an Army fort to be hung when his party meets another Army company escorting a band of Indians, including a boy, Mark. In the fort, Mark escapes and meets Keyes, who has also escaped on a camel mother with a youngster (Rosie and Thirsty). After adventures together escaping the Army patrol sent after Keyes, they meet a widow and her daughter (Miles and Foster), who feed them, and Miles agrees to take the boy with them to Colorado. Keyes leaves during the night, and Mark escapes to join him, but Keyes is recaptured and brought back to the fort to be hung. Can Mark save him?
I enjoyed this, Garner is great, and Jodie Foster also stands out in a smaller role. I watched it on Amazon Prime.
