If you remember the Olympic figure skating dramas of the past, and then tuned into the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships this past weekend, specifically the Men’s competition on Sunday, you witnessed the latest round in an exciting return to the kind of intense competition and rivalries of old. Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir have been challenging each other for a few years now, and last year Lysacek took the gold medal away from Weir for the first time. This year’s competition was riveting TV, whether you’re a figure skating fan or not. Both men gave it their all, both were brilliant except for very minor flaws, and the resulting scores were amazingly close. Impossibly close. Can’t wait to see what happens in the World Figure Skating Championships in March.
